Licensed NJ pool electrician with 35+ years of experience. New pool wiring, equipment connections, underwater lighting, bonding, grounding, and full NEC code compliance.
Pool electrical work is not a DIY project and it's not work for a general handyman. It requires a licensed electrician who understands NEC code articles 680 and 690, proper bonding and grounding requirements, and the life-safety risks of electricity near water. A. Russo Electric has been wiring pools across North Jersey for over 35 years.
Building a new pool requires a complete electrical system — from the main panel feed to the subpanel, pump circuits, lighting circuits, and control systems. We work directly with pool builders and homeowners to wire new inground and above-ground pools to code from day one.
Pool pumps, filters, heaters, salt chlorine generators, and automation systems all need dedicated circuits with proper wire sizing, disconnect switches, and weather-rated connections. We wire and connect all major brands of pool equipment.
Underwater pool lighting transforms your backyard. We install LED pool lights, fiber optic systems, and landscape lighting around pool decks. All lighting installations include proper waterproofing, bonding, and GFCI protection as required by NEC code.
NEC code requires GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection on all pool-related circuits. This includes pumps, lights, receptacles within 20 feet of the pool edge, and any other equipment. We install and test all GFCI devices to ensure they trip correctly and protect your family.
Hot tubs and spas typically require a dedicated 240V, 50-amp circuit with a GFCI-protected disconnect panel within sight of the unit. We handle the full installation — from panel to disconnect to the hot tub connection — for all brands including Jacuzzi, Bullfrog, Sundance, and more.
Proper bonding is the single most critical safety element in pool electrical work. NEC Article 680 requires equipotential bonding of all metal components within 5 feet of the pool — including the pool shell, reinforcing steel, water, metal fittings, ladders, lights, pumps, motors, and metal conduit. This creates an equipotential bonding grid that prevents dangerous voltage differences.
We install and verify bonding connections using copper bonding conductors (minimum #8 AWG solid copper) connected with approved bonding clamps and lugs. Every bonding connection is tested and documented.
NEC Article 680 governs the installation of electrical equipment in and around swimming pools, spas, hot tubs, and similar water features. Key requirements include: GFCI protection on all pool circuits, equipotential bonding of all metal components, minimum clearance distances from the pool for overhead wiring, proper burial depths for underground conduit, and specific wire types rated for wet locations. Non-compliance is not just a code violation — it's a life-safety risk. Every A. Russo Electric pool installation meets or exceeds these requirements.
Pool equipment typically requires a dedicated subpanel located near the pool pad. We install weatherproof subpanels with proper circuit distribution for pumps, lights, heaters, and accessories. All panels include required disconnect switches within sight of the equipment.
Whether you're building a new pool, buying a home with an existing pool, or concerned about an old installation, we provide thorough electrical inspections covering bonding integrity, GFCI function, wire condition, panel safety, and overall NEC compliance. We provide a detailed report of findings and can correct any issues found.
Electricity and water are a lethal combination. NJ law requires a licensed electrician for pool electrical work. Unlicensed work puts your family at risk and can void insurance coverage. A. Russo Electric is fully licensed, insured, and has 35+ years of pool electrical experience across North Jersey.
